A Gentle Reminder

Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding;
in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.-Proverb 3:5-6

BIG SHOCKER: Everything has not prevailed in the way I want, in the time I want, and how I want. God has managed to make my steady blueprint into a rollercoaster of life. 

With every major milestone, there is my “blueprint” that God has thrown away. He changes the course. Frustrates me. Sends people my way to tell me God has a plan and that the change is better. I have a come-to-Jesus meeting. Surrender little by little to His plan. Realize that God knows better and He is the captain and I am the passenger following by faith. 

I’m telling you..this is the process I go through.

Even in my frustration, I am reminded of this scripture: To not lean on the expectations of my blueprint but surrender all that I want and trust in God’s perfect blueprint of life.

For a type A personality who likes her way, this is hard to come by. With age, I am learning to let go more. I don’t need to have everything figured out. God gives me enough to live and function. 

For example as a high school graduate, my “perfect life” blueprint that God was to adhere to consisted to be married with children and a career by 30.  Well at 28, I am close to my career (awaiting bar results), no husband, and no children. But you know what? God knew what He was doing because I like to handle one life thing at a time. God knew I wanted to be a lawyer. He has led me down that path and the future…I have learned to let God lead.

Now that does not mean that I have taken a complete “hakuna matata” to my life. But I try to be an active participant in what God places in front of me.

A straight path is not a perfect path, but God’s purpose which is perfect and better.

To be honest, I am in an uncertain phase of life post-grad life, unemployed, and living with my parents. Yeah…really trusting the Lord for the next steps.

I want to be in Florida but don’t know where. I want to practice immigration law but don’t know how and if I will. I want a dog but don’t know if that is possible. I want to make an income but don’t know the job that will do that. A lot of wants but no blueprint. Just ideas…

The path seems very dark with little light shown but I take a deep breath and trust that God will work it out.

For now, I am looking forward to family time. Applying for work. Waiting for results. And trust and not lean on my own understanding.

The Modern Proverbs 31 Woman Hustler

She selects wool and flax
    and works with eager hands.
She is like the merchant ships,
    bringing her food from afar.
 She gets up while it is still night;
    she provides food for her family
    and portions for her female servants.
She considers a field and buys it;
    out of her earnings she plants a vineyard.
 She sets about her work vigorously;
    her arms are strong for her tasks.
She sees that her trading is profitable,
    and her lamp does not go out at night.
 In her hand she holds the distaff
    and grasps the spindle with her fingers.-vs. 13-19

Let’s just take a moment to notice Ms. Proverbs 31 was about that hustle and about that coin. 

I always admire women who take charge. The verbs in this passages: She selects, she brings, she gets up, She consider (or to me surveys), She sets, She sees, She holds, She grasps.

There have been times in my life where dinosaurs (i.e. patriarchal, jerky men) have said: a woman’s place is at home. The men do business. Or women should who have careers are bad mothers because they are neglecting their responsibilities. Well excuse me for not caring…the Proverbs 31 woman worked inside and outside the home. She is taking care of her children but she is also getting that coin. She wakes up early to handle her affairs with her family and servants before she heads out.

I have always asked women professionals, “Can women have it all: The husband, the children, the career?” Most of them have said yes and no: There must be a balance, there will be sacrifices, there will be ups and downs but you have to prioritize what is important. Fair enough answer.

A Proverbs 31 woman in my life went to nursing school with three children under the age of 10 (two children with disabilities), a part-time job as a pharmacy technician, a mortgage and a husband. Did people doubt and scold her because she wanted to a nurse? Yes. Did she have people tell her that she was crazy, that she had two sick children, that what kind of mother leaves her children behind to go to school, that english is her second language? Of course. But you know what? That God that was in her was greater than the critics around her. And she became a registered nurse by God’s power. That woman is my mother.  She would make sure food was on the table. She made it to almost every chorus concert I was in. She would pay for school lunch and my school supplies. BUT she also was studying long hours. She would wake early to head to school and clinicals. She hustled and did it.

And you know what? My mom’s career has helped our family and extended family in their medical care. So she did not go wrong going to school. It actually made the difference in our family.

A woman can hustle anywhere and can do anything to make it. Some women make their full-time job to raise the children  and look after the household (which should be a high-ranking job in itself). Some women work inside and outside the home. Some women work outside the home and the husband takes care of the household. One woman is not better than the other.  Don’t diminish one category. Let it be celebrated. Each woman living up to her God-given role.

A Modern Proverbs 31 Woman Hustler works hard wherever she is: no matter if it’s for herself, for her family, or for her boss.

When God has the plan, you must do your part. 

You must work for your success.

Sacrifice in the short term for success in the long haul.

As of today, Blissfully Bianca will be on hiatus for me to focus on my Bar studies. This is not goodbye forever. I will be back at the end of July. God really convicted me on this and has used people to call me out on my distractions. If I want victory and success, then I have to fight with everything I have.

The Bar is a tough, scary monster but I know all things are possible through Jesus. I know He has a plan and a purpose for me. But I need to be obedient, make tough decisions, and make tough sacrifices.

You have all been such a great, fun community of friends. I will miss your presence and all of your stories. Keep reading my posts. They are still there to encourage and uplift you. You have been a beautiful distraction to me. Love you all.

You are worthy in God’s eyes.

God has a plan and purpose for you.

Keep encouraging yourself and each other.

Live and be thankful each day.

One of the greatest standards of Womanhood is the Proverbs 31 Woman. It’s like every guy wants her and every girl wants to be her. It’s like the HOLY GRAIL to Womanhood.

I would wreck myself trying to be “the perfect woman.”  The perfect woman for marriage and life in general. REAL TALK: It does not exist. I am not perfect.

Well ladies, I want to give you all a restart. A fresh take on the Proverbs 31 Woman every Thursday in March. God made you and me uniquely with a certain set of skills and qualifications. We should not be boxed into societal expectation. Grow according to the Father. God gives us guidance to mold and fashion us into the women we want to be. So the Proverbs 31 Woman is a guide for women: to hustle, to give, to love, to fashion herself.

Love Yourself

The respect you want is the respect you allow.

My mom instilled in me that it is imperative that you love yourself first. No one can love you more than God and you. Know that you deserve love and respect BUT you decide how you receive it. When you know your value, you determine your outcome. You can be encrusted with good, solid people or bad people…it’s up to you.

If you allow disrespect, then you are the recipient of disrespect. If you allow respect, then you are the recipient of respect.

Stop disrespect at the start.

Establish boundaries.

Remove yourself from the situation.

Silence can speak louder than words.

In my life, by stopping disrespect to establish “Don’t cross me,” people back off or know I can’t mess with Bianca. You don’t need to waste your breath and energy on disrespect so silence and leaving the toxic situation is best.

So remember you are worth it.

Starting Something New

Starting Something New

So with us halfway through January,  it is no shock that probably you and I have fallen off our goals/resolution train. The motivation turns into struggle and ultimately giving up and waiting till next year. I have had moments where sitting inside felt better than running in the cold. I have not worn my fitness tracker every day. Some days I am so unmotivated that I sleep and watch TV. I don”t practice my brush lettering every day. So yeah..I am not perfection in 2018.

BUT every day is a new day.Rome was not built in a day. But I bet each day, the builders had a mindset of “let’s keep building.” Whether they built a story or five story in one day, they still built. Don’t give up on your goals. If you want something, you need to have the mindset of “I am going to try.” Have a new attitude and new mindset. Mastery comes from consistent tries.So try and try again.

New You, Same God

He Makes A New Way

Jesus came to clean the mess we make. It seems impossible for a Great God to love someone as flawed and damaged as you and me. But the God who breathed life into humanity is the same God who will make a way for you and me. He is the ultimate  loophole for your sin and eternity.

See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.-Isaiah 43:19

I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you will be clean; I will cleanse you from all your impurities and from all your idols. I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh.  And I will put my Spirit in you and move you to follow my decrees and be careful to keep my laws.-Ezekiel 36:25-27

Renewing Heart & Mind through Christ

Ok, God makes the way. Now with your attitude. God creates a new spirit and new life in us. When you accept Christ in your heart and spirit, He cleanses us. There were many people Jesus encountered that when man shamed, Jesus redeemed. Yes, there are people who will remind you who you use to be. You no longer live there. You are not your past. You are present and redeemed.

Create in me a pure heart, O God,  and renew a steadfast spirit within me.-Psalm 51:10

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ,the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!-2 Corinthians 5:17

You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires;  to be made new in the attitude of your minds;  and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.-Ephesians 4:22-24

Daily Renewing

So we are feelin our new being in Christ but then you have to wake up and deal with traffic, work, kids, life. I know because I have been on a Sunday highs then Monday lows hit. Jesus is the same today, tomorrow, and forever. He will give you the strength and endurance to make it. He renews you and me daily if we put Him first in our day.

Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. I say to myself, “The Lord is my portion; therefore I will wait for him.”-Lamentations 3:22-24

Yes And Amen

Yes And Amen

“All your promises are Yes and Amen.”

A lyric that is easy to sing but the lesson can be hard to act on.

It is a wonderful feeling when God says YES! He opens the door, provides the opportunity, and the means and ways to it. It is like Oprah saying YES!

Now the Amen part. Sometimes you have your plans/blueprint and God says: “Not now. Not yet. Wait.” Amen means God has sealed it and it is done. In my own life, I have said Amen after wrestling with my pride. The “burning bush of reason” says “Bianca, it’s time to stop fighting, say Amen, and move on.” I have to pray for the peace that surpasses understanding and to let it go.

You are NOT meant for the cozy, comfortable blueprint designed by you. God wants more from you and me and that calls for uncomfortable denial of self.

So if you find yourself in this dilemma, you’re alone. God is faithful. He is a God of mercy when our pride gets in the way. We have to let go of our plans. God knows what is best. One of my favorite proverbs is In their hearts humans plan their course, but the Lord establishes their steps.”-Proverbs 16;9.

God has the best plan. So find the strength to surrender your way to His Way. Say Yes and Amen.
