A Gentle Reminder

A Gentle Reminder

I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.”-John 16:33

Can we all agree life is hard? Whether it be the world news, relationship issues,  issues at work, your health, job searches and pending bar results (me), and everything in between. It just stinks.

But you know what?

God has overcome it so you will overcome it.

It is not a quick genie presto. It is in God’s timing. Know that God may be blocking, clearing, or preventing something bad from happening. Maybe you did not get something because there is something better in store.

I know what you are thinking: Bianca, I have been rejected too many times!?!

Well I am right there with you. Life is hard.

Jesus did not promise an easy life. I do not have an easy life. Sometimes I do want to give up and throw in the towel. But I don’t because something better is in store for me. So I will say that to you: Something better is in store.

He overcame the trouble on the Cross. Your “life issues” are HANDLED!

Be encouraged.

It’s handled in Jesus name!!!

Blissfully,

Bianca

The Modern Proverbs 31 Woman Hustler

The Modern Proverbs 31 Woman Hustler

She selects wool and flax
    and works with eager hands.
She is like the merchant ships,
    bringing her food from afar.
 She gets up while it is still night;
she provides food for her family
and portions for her female servants.
She considers a field and buys it;
out of her earnings she plants a vineyard.
 She sets about her work vigorously;
her arms are strong for her tasks.
She sees that her trading is profitable,
and her lamp does not go out at night.
In her hand she holds the distaff
and grasps the spindle with her fingers.-vs. 13-19

Let’s just take a moment to notice Ms. Proverbs 31 was about that hustle and about that coin.

I always admire women who take charge. The verbs in this passages: She selects, she brings, she gets up, She consider (or to me surveys), She sets, She sees, She holds, She grasps.

There have been times in my life where dinosaurs (i.e. patriarchal, jerky men) have said: a woman’s place is at home. The men do business. Or women should who have careers are bad mothers because they are neglecting their responsibilities. Well excuse me for not caring…the Proverbs 31 woman worked inside and outside the home. She is taking care of her children but she is also getting that coin. She wakes up early to handle her affairs with her family and servants before she heads out.

I have always asked women professionals, “Can women have it all: The husband, the children, the career?” Most of them have said yes and no: There must be a balance, there will be sacrifices, there will be ups and downs but you have to prioritize what is important. Fair enough answer.

A Proverbs 31 woman in my life went to nursing school with three children under the age of 10 (two children with disabilities), a part-time job as a pharmacy technician, a mortgage and a husband. Did people doubt and scold her because she wanted to a nurse? Yes. Did she have people tell her that she was crazy, that she had two sick children, that what kind of mother leaves her children behind to go to school, that english is her second language? Of course. But you know what? That God that was in her was greater than the critics around her. And she became a registered nurse by God’s power. That woman is my mother.  She would make sure food was on the table. She made it to almost every chorus concert I was in. She would pay for school lunch and my school supplies. BUT she also was studying long hours. She would wake early to head to school and clinicals. She hustled and did it.

And you know what? My mom’s career has helped our family and extended family in their medical care. So she did not go wrong going to school. It actually made the difference in our family.

A woman can hustle anywhere and can do anything to make it. Some women make their full-time job to raise the children  and look after the household (which should be a high-ranking job in itself). Some women work inside and outside the home. Some women work outside the home and the husband takes care of the household. One woman is not better than the other.  Don’t diminish one category. Let it be celebrated. Each woman living up to her God-given role.

A Modern Proverbs 31 Woman Hustler works hard wherever she is: no matter if it’s for herself, for her family, or for her boss.

Blissfully,

Bianca

See You Later

See You Later

When God has the plan, you must do your part.

You must work for your success.

Sacrifice in the short term for success in the long haul.

As of today, Blissfully Bianca will be on hiatus for me to focus on my Bar studies. This is not goodbye forever. I will be back at the end of July. God really convicted me on this and has used people to call me out on my distractions. If I want victory and success, then I have to fight with everything I have.

The Bar is a tough, scary monster but I know all things are possible through Jesus. I know He has a plan and a purpose for me. But I need to be obedient, make tough decisions, and make tough sacrifices.

You have all been such a great, fun community of friends. I will miss your presence and all of your stories. Keep reading my posts. They are still there to encourage and uplift you. You have been a beautiful distraction to me. Love you all.

You are worthy in God’s eyes.

God has a plan and purpose for you.

Keep encouraging yourself and each other.

Live and be thankful each day.

Be unapologetically and blissfully you.

Blissfully,

Bianca

A Standard To Live Up To

A Standard To Live Up To

One of the greatest standards of Womanhood is the Proverbs 31 Woman. It’s like every guy wants her and every girl wants to be her. It’s like the HOLY GRAIL to Womanhood.

I would wreck myself trying to be “the perfect woman.”  The perfect woman for marriage and life in general. REAL TALK: It does not exist. I am not perfect.

Well ladies, I want to give you all a restart. A fresh take on the Proverbs 31 Woman every Thursday in March. God made you and me uniquely with a certain set of skills and qualifications. We should not be boxed into societal expectation. Grow according to the Father. God gives us guidance to mold and fashion us into the women we want to be. So the Proverbs 31 Woman is a guide for women: to hustle, to give, to love, to fashion herself.

So join this ride with me as we take a Modern Look at the Proverbs 31 Woman. It starts next Thursday!

Starting Something New

Starting Something New

So with us halfway through January,  it is no shock that probably you and I have fallen off our goals/resolution train. The motivation turns into struggle and ultimately giving up and waiting till next year. I have had moments where sitting inside felt better than running in the cold. I have not worn my fitness tracker every day. Some days I am so unmotivated that I sleep and watch TV. I don”t practice my brush lettering every day. So yeah..I am not perfection in 2018.

BUT every day is a new day.Rome was not built in a day. But I bet each day, the builders had a mindset of “let’s keep building.” Whether they built a story or five story in one day, they still built. Don’t give up on your goals. If you want something, you need to have the mindset of “I am going to try.” Have a new attitude and new mindset. Mastery comes from consistent tries. So try and try again.

Fluff is NOT needed except for desserts and pillows.

I have learned it is important to be selfish especially if it has to do with your well-being. I know I am being redundant but it is vital to take care of your mind, body, and spirit.

When you have your standards, keep them. Don’t let it waiver.

Whether it’s a big leap or a step in the right direction, you have a daily opportunity to live.  I love this quote because it is true. You can change your life by a single decision. If you are not six feet under and not in a hospital dying, you are doing pretty well.  One life on one planet in a moment in time. Know that you have purpose. So what change will you decide to do?

Nostalgic Bliss: Law School Edition

Nostalgic Bliss: Law School Edition

My last semester of law school is HERE!! Here are my reflections of law school.

  1. Law school is a new environment not matter where you go so ADAPT to your surroundings.
  2. Not everyone who smiles at you is your buddy. It may sound crazy or mean but here me out. Some are after sabotage and manipulation to get the better grade. There are quality people  and mentors jpg_law_justice_003you will encounter who will bring out the best parts in you. I have met the best people who had my best interests at heart and who rooted for me (You know who you are). It is a small handful of people but it’s enough for me. Guard yourself.
  3. Do what works for you. Everyone is different. What works for you is FOR YOU!
  4. Tears are the steps to your growth. I have cried on a few occasions but I dusted myself off and kept going. My visceral fear and failure could not be permanent or I would come to my own ruin. The resilience makes you stronger so keep going.
  5. Breathe. It will all be worth it. The blood, sweat, tears, and lack of sleep will pay off when I walk across that stage to receive my diploma and when I get sworn in as a licensed attorney.

Nostalgic Bliss

Nostalgic Bliss

After high school comes college. College was another life changing phase. My grainy journey consisted the following: changed my major a few times, took time off, yet had great memories, and graduated. I would not change my journey for anything.

  1. Your foundation of faith is vital as you navigate freedom you have never experienced. I did not have my parents telling me to go to church, read my Bible, and be set apart. I had the choice to give up on Jesus but my dad always told me “You can never go wrong with serving God.” Something told me not to let Him go. Thankfully, I was involved in Christian groups and was involved in a local church. My campus pastor, Ken Jones & his wife, Janet Jones, played a great role in my spiritual growth.
  2. School> Boys. Sorry, not sorry. I went to school for degree. Granted I did want a boyfriend but marriage was waaayyyy down the road. I knew that I wanted a career and to be someone.
  3. If you don’t find your spouse by graduation, it is  not the end of the world. I remember the constant pressure of people telling me I met my spouse at this event, this spot, this campus, etc. I got annoyed because it was not happening to me. I was not going to graduate with a spouse. But then I realized that I was graduating with a degree..that is so much better than finding a spouse.
  4. Know what you want and don’t apologize to those who don’t apply themselves. There will be the lazy ones who will want to discourage you and bring you down to their level but stand your ground.
  5. Love what you do.
  6. Ask help before its too late. It’s ok to be a beginner. Asking for help does not mean that you are weak. It just means you are willing to be better.
  7. Enjoy college.  It was so much fun and I would not trade my experience.

Grainy
